MNL48 joins World Health Organization to urge Filipinos not to use Tobacco
Staying true to their mission of being good role models to inspire young men and women, MNL48 Sheki, Brei, Rans, Sela, Abby, Coleen, Belle, Jem, Faith, Lei, Kay, Sayaka, Dian, Dana and Ruth participated in World Health Organization's (WHO) World No Tobacco Day 2019 at Paco Arena Events and Sports Center on May 31, 2019.
WHO, in partnership with the Department of Health Metro Manila organized a basketball clinic attended by almost a hundred youth, aiming not just to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco to people’s health, but also to encourage them to strengthen their immunity by engaging themselves in sports.
Considering that children are said to be the hope of our nation, OIC-Director of the Department of Health Metro Manila Center for Health Development, Dr. Corazon Flores appealed to them not to get involved to tobacco use. “We want to encourage you, kayo po ang pag-asa ng bayan, wag niyo hayaan na maudyukan kayo ng masama. We encourage everyone to do activities kasi sisigla ang katawan natin at bibilis ang pag hinga. The more we enjoy what we’re doing, the more we will live long and healthier life. Let’s protect our bodies from diseases and our environment in pollution.”
As the Philippines’ idol group supports the campaign, MNL48 are delighted to share their talents to the youth performing their hit tracks “365 Araw ng Eroplanong Papel” and “Bingo!”.
“Thank you World Health Organization for inviting us and it’s an honor po na maging part ng ganitong event and siyempre makapag-perform in front of you. Kami po we sing and dance kaya super important po sa amin ‘yung maging healthy ‘yung lungs namin, kaya we encourage you po to support no tobacco,” Sheki said.
In addition, Jem shared that being able to become one of the advocates of World Health Organization is a privilege for the group to show that they have the qualities of a true idol.
“Sobrang saya po na napasama po kami ditp kasi feeling ko ngayon sobrang na-serve po namin ‘yung responsibility namin as an idol. ‘Yung sa iba po pure entertainment lang po ‘yung purpose namin, dito we entertain people and at the same time parang naging advocate po kami. Parang we are working for such great goal for this event, para po makapag-influence po sa mga Filipinos lalo na po sa mga kabataan.”
“You need to remember na as long as you’re young, you need to take care of yourself. Lahat po ng body parts natin is important expecially ‘yung lungs natin because we use it every time we breathe, so pag nahirapan tayo huminga we cannot live a happy life,” Jem concluded reminding everyone not to use tobacco.
